Governor Opposes HEC Dissolution: Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad Khan has said that the dissolution of the commission in an abrupt manner will be harmful to the country. Talking to journalists after attending the ‘Dental Symposium-’ at the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences in Jamshoro on Saturday, the governor said HEC had played a pivotal role in improving the standard of higher education. He said that he had discussed the HEC issue with the president and prime minister and presented their recommendations prepared by vice-chancellors, senior professors, academicians, and intellectuals of the province, who wanted a continuation of HEC and opposed its dissolution.
He said that several subjects had been transferred to provinces after the passage of the 18th Amendment and the HEC was also among them. He had presented his point of view to the president and hoped the final decision would be in favor of the commission, he said. Answering a question about the appointment of vice-chancellors, Dr. Khan said they were appointed under a set criterion. A high-powered committee advertised the posts and conducted interviews of eligible candidates, he said. The governor appointed VCs on the basis of recommendations forwarded by the committee.
